US Wants China to Focus on IP Enforcement

IP in China is high on the US diplomatic agenda. When the US and China begin two days of talks in Washington this week, experts say that U.S. officials are expected to discuss three main issues:
- The value of the yuan, China’s currency (and Chinese officials will likely raise the issue of America's huge budget deficit).
- China's policies that limit market access for foreign companies (in particular with regards to procurement contracts).
- The lax enforcement of intellectual property rights in China. Despite some progress in recent years, IP protection remains largely unsatisfactory. This is a particular concern for the US IT/software industry.
