UK: Pink Floyd Sues EMI over Royalties over the Internet

The FT reports that Pink Floyd is suing EMI, its record company since 1967, over royalty calculation issues. What is at stake appears to be the exploitation of their catalogue over the internet. Their album Dark Side of the Moon is till one of the top five best selling albums of all times and Pink Floyd's catalogue represents big money.

In the law suit the parties seek clarification about a 1998 contract renegotiated before the expansion of the online music market. Interestingly the FT stresses that The Floyd is also seeking to obtain a declaration by the court that EMI is not allowed to 'unbundle' their albums and make individual tracks available for download.
