Toward Federal Law on Human Embryonic Stem-Cell Research ?

While the National Institutes of Health fights in court for permission to resume long-term funding for research involving human embryonic stem cells, some members of the US Congress are proposing to make President Obama’s stem-cell funding policy federal law (this would allow to grant federal funding for stem cell research, a particularly controversial issue in the United States).

A similar bill was passed by Congress twice – in 2005 and in 2007 – but was vetoed both times by President Bush. More recently a new democratic bill introduced in 2009 (Stem Cell Research Advancement Act) was put to a standstill when President Obama finally chose to extend federal funding [...]
