Taiwan Creates IP Bank

Following the creation of similar funds in Japan and South Korea's, Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), the semi-official Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) announced that it will set up an intellectual property bank in June 2011 in order to strengthen the country's hi-tech industries against international patent disputesn (in particular in the US where Taiwan has the fith largest registered number of patents).

The planned IP bank will be formed in two steps:
1/ An IP management operation; and
2/ An IP fund.
