Peter and the Wolf Before the US Supreme Court

In 1994 Congress took Peter and the Wolf and millions of other works out of the US public domain following the 1994 Uruguay Round Agreements Act, an international trade deal that gave a slew of foreign creative works new copyright protections in the United States.

The rationale behind Congress’ move was that it was necessary for the US to comply with treaties and foreign trade agreements and that the show of cooperation will mean copyright protection for the work of American artists overseas.
