Non-for-Profit Patent Pool for Poorest Countries

We understand that a not-for-profit patent pool will be created later this year to allow developing countries to manufacture cheaper HIV drugs. This pool, which will be based in Switzerland, home of big pharmaceutical laboratories like Hoffmann La Roche, Sandoz, Novartis as well as the World Health organization. The pool is supposed to start its operations in June 2010 after formal approval by the executive board of UNITAID, the international facility purchasing drugs against HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis.
