Nestle v Sara Lee on Nespresso

Yesterday Swiss giant Nestle (the world’s biggest food manufacturer) announced that it was suing Sara Lee Corporation in France for patent infringement of its Nespresso coffee system.

The success of Sara Lee’s launch of competing L'OR Espresso capsules (allegedly sold at a 10% discount compared to Nestle’s) in French retail outlets in April 2010 triggered Nestle’s reaction. Nestle is claiming that Sara Lee’s coffee capsules violate its patents on Nespresso, its popular at-home coffee maker.
