Microsoft Buys Skype
Microsoft is reported to have closed a US$8.5bn deal for the internet phone service Skype, in a deal that has shocked analysts who think it would be a substantial overpayment for the company. This deal raises several issues for Microsoft: - Overpayment? Most analysts like the idea of the deal, but question whether Skype is worth the price. Skype was bought by eBay for $2.6bn in 2005 (at the time the idea was to incorporate Skype's technology into eBay's auctions so that bidders/sellers could call each other ahead of their close).
