Lightsaber Copyright Dispute

Lucasfilm has issued a cease-and-desist letter against Hong Kong based company Wicked Lasers - the manufacturer of the Spyder III Pro Arctic, a laser product ressembling a Jedi lightsaber claimed by Lucas to be “protected by copyright."

Wicked Laser’s Spyder III Pro Arctic has been decribed by some as a a highly dangerous product with the potential to cause blindness, burns and other damage to people and/or property". The manufacturer is aware of the risk associated with the product and now provides it with a pair of safety goggles. It also require buyers to agree to a "Class 4 Laser Hazard Acknowledgment Form".
