The 27-nation European Union (EU)  said it was expecting to firm up negotiations with India by April on a broad-based free trade area (FTA) agreement that will also cover the mobility of skilled professionals. The signing, however could take longer. The EU also underlined its plans to expand counter-terror cooperation with India.

“The main agreement is expected to be firmed up by April… But we do not expect the agreement to be signed then as we will need more time,” EU Ambassador Daniele Smadja told reporters here.

“We will have to wait till the next summit when the leaders may be able to initial the agreement,” she said.
