How to Protect Gems and Jewellry?
The Financial Times runs a story about jewellry and stones that are being re-touched, altered, re-cut, etc. Stressing that what some call improvement, others call vandalism, the FT tells the sory of the 17th Century blue diamond seen on Margarita Theresa in Velazquez's 'Las Meninas', recently acquired by Mr. Laurence Graff (aka 'The King of Diamonds') in an auction at Christie's for $24.3 million and given to re-cut. Many diamond specialists or diamond amateurs voiced their emotion and shock at the recutting. The article does not really mention IP rights.
