In interesting article from Peter Decherney in the NY Times suggesting that too much copyright can kill copyright. The main focus of the article is on the effect of the 1994 Uruguay Round Agreements Act, Congress which restored the copyrights of many foreign works that previously had been freely available. Mr. Decherney suggests that many creations were only made possible because they derive from works already fallen in the public domain.
