Google vs Viacom documents unsealed, “Viacom uploaded their own copyrighted material”
The Google vs. Viacom soap has entered a new chapter, now that newly released court documents reveal that, according to Google, the copyrighted material on YouTube for which it is being sued by Viacom was in fact uploaded by Viacom itself. On the official YouTube blog, YouTube Chief Counsel Zahavah Levine summarises Viacom’s actions: “Viacom continuously and secretly uploaded its content to YouTube, even while publicly complaining about its presence there. It hired no fewer than 18 different marketing agencies to upload its content to the site. It deliberately "roughed up" the videos to make them look stolen or leaked. It opened YouTube accounts using phony email addresses. [...]
