German ex Minister Gets Away with Copyright Violation

German prosecutors have dropped an investigation into alleged copyright violations by Germany’s former defense minister, Mr. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, a former rising star in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative bloc in exchange for a €20,000 ($27,000) fine — a decision that may clear the way for his eventual political comeback. Mr. Guttenberg resigned in March after it emerged he had copied large parts of his doctoral thesis. The prosecutors based their decision on the absence of economic benefit.
