Disney in Wonderland...On the Other Side of the Theatrical Window

 Several large European Cinema chains have threatened to boycott Disney’s forthcoming Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton) to retaliate against its plans to release the DVD earlier than usual. Alice is expected to become one of the biggest 2010 box office hits. However, Disney’s decision to bring forward the release by a month from 17 weeks after the theatrical release to only 13 weeks makes it unpopular with movie theatre operators. This decision goes against the ‘understanding’ between distributors and movie owners that there must be a window of at least four months between the cinema release and the DVD release.
