Cross-retaliation on US IP rights - updates

By Karina HAIDAR MULLER - Date : 2010-04-22 - Country : BRESIL - Subject : Regulations - IP Field : Industrial Property

Yesterday, the Brazilian and US Governments move forward in the negotiations of a possible settlement in order to put and end to the 7-years old dispute which may result in the cross-retaliation over US IP rights in Brazil. Representatives of both governments had a meeting yesterday at Punta del Este city, Uruguay, to discuss the details of the settlement, which will probably result in the payment of damages by the US Government to Brazilian cotton producers.

The countries are still discussing details of a possible settlement, but Brazil has suspended, for the next 60-days, any measures to retaliate the USA. More updates will be posted as soon as they occur.
