Clash between Amazon, Publishers and Writers over e-Books
We understand from the Register that the writers' group Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America has cut links to Amazon. This move followed Amazon’s decision to remove some titles from MacMillan’s publishing. The fuzz is about the pricing of e-books which Amazon (trying to promote its Kindle) wants to set uniformly at $9.99 whereas Macmillan refuses to sell its latest titles for less than $15. Macmillan argues that it needs more flexibility in pricing and that it needs to charge that much to recoup its investment.
