'Balaramapuram Sarees' gets Geographical Indication Protection

IPR Indlaw reports that Kerala's prestigious 'Balaramapuram Sarees' have become the first handloom product in the state to receive the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection through Geographical Indications Act (GI Act).

The state Government had submitted the application for IPR protection through Mumbai Textile Committee to the Registrar General, according to an official release here.

The IPR protection, which would be effective for the next 10-years, started on January 19, 2010.
