Apple under Preliminary Antitrust Investigation

The US antitrust authorities (Federal Trade Commission and Justice Department) are taking a great interest in Apple’s recent amendments to its licensing agreement with iPhone application developers. A preliminary investigation is likely to follow by either the FTC or the Justice Department. Any preliminary investigation would not necessarily translate into legal action against Apple. However, this raises interesting issues about Apple’s closed system and its effect on the IT and telecom markets.
