Android under Attack
Microsoft is siding with Oracle against Google in an alleged patent infringement dispute against Android (Google-Java phone). This is a frontal conflict between the two giants Microsoft and Google involving intellectual property and telecommunication. For Microsoft it is Windows Phone 7 that is at stake, a phone that will only work on GSM (i.e. Europe and the rest of the world but not immediately the US as it uses the CDMA standard). The Register underlines that the dispute is also a clash between two competing business models: Microsoft charges OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to license its Windows operating systems, adding to the costs of making a product.
