An Internet User Appeals to ECHR

A French internet user found guilty of copyright infringement and who was condemned to pay 20,000 euros for hosting and sharing more than 13,000 files is now appealing to the European Court of Human Rights. Mr. Climent was found guilty of copyright infringement in France on the grounds of the Intellectual Property Code and not on the new HADOPI statute. He is claiming that the French decision is in breach of article 6 of the European Convention of Human Rights and in particular of its article 6 (right to fair process).

Mr. Climent's intention is apparently 'to trigger public debate on copyright law' and to 'help find the right system for authors and consumers'.
